The school is in temporary premises in Gloucester Road, Exwick, Exeter EX4 2EE until September 2015.
The Academy plans to move to Thomas Hall on the Cowley Bridge road before September 2015 and has been working closely with Exeter City Council and Aedas, an experienced design team on a scheme that will respect the unique qualities of the site.
The hall and grounds will make a perfect location for the all-through (4-16) Steiner Academy, which will eventually house over 600 pupils.
The Academy opened in September on a temporary site in Exwick, with over 100 children in Reception, years 1,2,3 and 7.
Thomas Hall, previously known as Great Duryard, was most recently a university hall of residence but has stood empty for some years. We are delighted to have this opportunity to breathe new life into this beautiful building and site. It will be a wonderful environment for children, with tremendous scope for us to develop those aspects of our curriculum that really come alive in the great outdoors. The Academy intends to return the hall’s extensive walled garden to its former glory and will be able to pursue a garden-to-table approach, endeavouring to feed pupils and staff
from its own produce.
The plans that can be viewed here are emerging designs and may be subject to change – the final proposals will be available for comment once the planning application is submitted.
